I bought a DVD from Malaysia on ebay.com. I paid for it via PayPal. The seller stated that it was a factory release version. She also stated it came with documents from the Malaysian government stating it was real. Well a few days go by and I receive this item. It consists of three discs (televeision show on DVD). The box looks kinda weird, like someone printed it at home, however, there is a big hologram on the front. So I figured maybe they just made this really cheap. I open the box and the there are two dvd cases inside. One holding one DVD, while the other is hold two. Both cases are only made for one DVD. Disc 1 does not play on any of my 4 DVD players. The other discs work, but the menus look like they were made on a computer. Lastly the subtitles are extremely literal and not very good.
Well this lady states in the auction that she accepts no returns. I can not ship these items to her because they are counterfeit and that is a felony anyway. What can I do?

For me, the answer is simple. Grab a legitamate DVD and play it. You know that intro screen that we can’t skip past that nobody (including myself) ever reads fully…it’s all about stealing/forging copies of the copywrited materials on the disk. I believe there is contact info there to report a fraud, but if not, just contact the local FBI (USA) or RCMP (Canada) and ask how to report a fraud. Your money is gone, but you might help in putting this person out of business by doing so.

You aren’t going to have any luck returning the disks. Even if you did send them back, you would never get a refund. The police here are not going to be interested at all. You could report the person to the Malaysian police to try to get this person to stop selling counterfeit items, but it’s unlikely they will do much either.
You could try to dispute the sale through Ebay/Paypal as “Item not as described”. It’s probably not worth the hassle though and you would probably be required to return the items anyway, which you don’t want to do.

How did you pay for it through Paypal? Bank account or credit card? If you paid through credit card you can always contest the credit card charges through your credit card company. If not, you can raise a dispute through paypal to try to get your money back.

I’d contact eBay about it, see what advice they give. Also, go on eBay and give the seller a huge thumbs down and a scathing review.
I’d also still try contacting the seller about the problem.

I would contact ebay and paypal. More specifically the fraud departments. They may be able to help you get a refund. If not, they can at least block the seller.
And always remember – check feedback first.

same thing happened to me. you must ring paypal. make the complaint. they will take ages to asses ure complaint. they will then tell you to take it to a qulified dvd person who can verify they r fake. the person writes a letter saying it is fake with company header and u fax it to paypal as proof. my dvd’s were apparently being sent from sydney, instead they were sent from china fake! i wanna shoot the seller. they stole $180 of my money. that doesnt include the costs of shipping. that is low. so you can get a refund. you make no more contact with the seller because paypal is the only way to get ure money back.

I will be doubly careful when buying from individulas on eBay. Sorry I do not think there is much you can do without incurring un-necessary extra cost, with little or no commensurate benefit. Sorry about it.
